With a lowered car (either for street or track use), the non-adjustable original arms cause unwanted negative camber - the tops of the rear tires angle in too much, causing uneven tire wear and unwanted effects on handling. The adjustable rear control arm corrects this problem and can be tuned for any lowering, whether a street car ro a full-on race car through a +1.0? to -3.0? range. Co-developed with OE-supplier SPC Performance, the combination of OE engineering and UUC's enhancements make these arms truly "ultimate". With so many alternate choices, why UUC? Our custom-made proprietary design resolves many of the issues with other brands: Aluminum center rods are known to bend and fail under extreme use or after extended use (build-up of strain/weakening). Failure of a suspension part that keeps the wheel in place can be quite dangerous. UUC's chromoly center rods are the strongest in the world, virtually unbreakable in this application. The wrench-fixing point of UUC's chromoly arm will not "round off" like the fixing point of aluminum arms. While producing a "short" shifter, our more important goal in improving the BMW shifter assembly is to increase the precision and smoothness of the overall operation. The problem. One significant wear area that has never been addressed previously is the wear and ovalization of the linkage connection points at the transmission and the shifter's lower pivot. In the original BMW design, the connection at both ends has a large injection-molded plastic bushing. We already know how badly plastic wears in an automotive application, and these areas are not an exception. The design of the selector rod has a pin at 90° to the main rod, which exerts a tremendous amount of leveraged force on the selector joint bushing from one side (known as a single shear force). The result is a steady deformation of the bushing, resulting in looseness and slop in the entire mechanism. The looseness and slop are magnified by the leverage-multiplication effect of the shift lever itself. The result is an in-gear shifter "free play" of 3/4" and up to 1" in either direction, over 35mm total. The cure. A temporary fix is to simply replace the selector joint. Unfortunately, this is only a temporary fix as the new joint's bushing will exhibit the same rapid deformation. To permanently fix this, a change in the fundamental design of the pivot is required, changing the assembly to a double shear system with the UUC Double Shear Selector Rod (DSSR). The DSSR redistributes the torsional forces from the pin/bushing interface to the complete face area on both sides of the selector joint. By taking advantage of the strength of steel in the DSSR and the body of the joint, the problem of deformation is eliminated and the movement of the selector rod correlates directly to movement of the selector joint - the only "free play" movement remaining in the shifter assembly is from within the transmission itself. In-gear "free play" is reduced to approximately 10mm total when used with a UUC EVO3 shifter. The original BMW shifter and all other aftermarket shifters (except UUC which uses deformation-free bearings) contain a plastic bushing similar to the selector joint, and the exact same wear and ovalization causes those shifters to get sloppy. The DSSR permanently fixes these shifters also. The DSSR is compatible with all brand shifters, whether original BMW or other-brand aftermarket. When used with the original BMW shifter or other aftermarket shifters, the amount of "free play" will be greatly reduced but varies by shifter (flexation of the shifter shaft contributes to the total "free play" travel). No other solutions. While there are other replacement selector rods sold in the aftermarket (including "no tolerance" brass and "heavy" selector rods), none of them will get rid of the slop and "free play" in the BMW shifter assembly. These alternate products are not actually improving the shift feel at all, but are simply rods with alternate geometry (either bent or twisted), an accommodation to make the "universal fit" aftermarket shifters fit properly. These other aftermarket shifters, even with their "heavy" selector rods, will still be as sloppy as the original BMW shifters they are replacing. While the throw may be shorter, the precision of the assembly is no better than a new BMW part, and will develop the same slop within a few thousand miles.

Many E46 owners (330, 328, 325, 323 models) have experienced mushy clutch feel, inconsistent engagement, and premature wear of the clutch in their manual-transmission cars. The reason is quite simple - the original BMW (LUK-manufactured) clutch in the E46 (and E39) has a new "SAC" (Self Adjusting Clutch) design. This new mechanism built into the clutch pressure plate is supposed to keep the clutch pedal engagement point the same as the clutch wears... but in all reality, it's a case of "an answer to a question that nobody was asking." They have added a layer of complexity and feedback isolation, filling a need that didn't need filling - it is not too often that anybody notices that their clutch engagement point as moved 1/2" over 50K miles. The SAC mechanism itself causes problems; it over- or under-adjusts the pressure plate and therefore causes the clutch to slip or burn out prematurely. They are also known to shift, causing the pressure plate release fingers to slip off the plate, keeping 1/3 of the pressure plate engaged at all times. Bottom line is that the only fix is a complete clutch job, and your dealer is likely to claim "driver abuse". We have seen it happen too many times. The SAC mechanism may not give a clean release like a standard clutch. Instead of just two sets of springs, there is an adjuster mechanism that makes engagement feel mushy or slow. The new UUC Performance Organic "direct-fit" clutch eliminates the SAC mechanism and restores traditional clutch feel with predictable and crisp engagement. Amongst the majority, there are two schools of thought concerning light flywheels. The first is that they do not contribute to power output. The second is that they do. Which thought is correct? In fact both, in a way, are correct. If we measured the power output of an engine first with light flywheel and then again with the standard part on an engine dyno, no change in power will be seen to occur. At first it appears that the light flywheel has done nothing and was a total waste of cash. This is not the case. A dyno that shows max power at constant revs does not demonstrate what happens to an engine's power output in real life situations - like acceleration. If an engine is accelerated on a dyno (we are talking about a rate of around 2000rpm a second ) it would show a power output of around 20%-25% less than at the constant rev state. The reason for this is that when accelerating a vehicle the engine not only has to push the total mass of the car but the internal components of the engine need to be accelerated also. This tends to absorb more power as the extra power is used accelerating the internal mass of the engine components and is why a motor accelerating on a dyno will produce less power than at constant revs. Also it must be remembered that the rate of acceleration on the engine internals is much greater that the rest of the car. This would then suggest that by lightening the flywheel, less power would be required to accelerate it and therefore more power would be available to push the car along. Now, it may seen unbelievable that by removing a few pounds from the flywheel a noticeable difference to a 3000lb+ car’s acceleration will be made. In fact the difference is quite noticeable and the secret behind this is hidden within the gearbox. Everyone knows that cars accelerate at a greater rate in low gears, this is because a car’s gear box basically a mechanical lever and just like when using a leaver to lift a heavy object, the gearbox reduces the mass of the car that the engine sees. For example, in first gear an engine will see the car's mass as only around say 250lbs but the engine internal mass would still remain around 45lbs. As for the "virtual" weight loss of a typical lightweight flywheel in the 3-series or M3, we've prepared the full mathematical analysis: Calculations for UUC flywheels showing exact "virtual" weight loss in each gear - click here to download Acrobat .pdf file It is now easier to see were the extra performance comes from when you lighten a flywheel. You effectively "lighten" a car by more than 10% in first gear just by removing mass from the flywheel. As the gear used increases this "lightening" effect is reduced. This is why car’s acceleration improvement reduces in higher gears, to very effect in top gear. Great for drags and tight race tracks but will not increase a car's top speed. You will see the calculations include the diameter of the flywheel, weight lost (same overall rotating mass difference in UUC Stage1 or Stage2 due to pressure plate weight differences), gear ratios including 6-speed application, and typical diff ratio. The effective "virtual" weight losses are: GEAR "virtual" weight lost: 1st gear 394.4 lbs. 2nd gear 151.7 lbs. 3rd gear 75.4 lbs. 4th gear 48.5 lbs. 5th gear 37.6 lbs. 6th gear 31.0 lbs. A general rule of thumb for weight loss equivalence to "gained" power is approximately 10lbs/hp. That is for every 10lbs lost, the car gains the effective performance increase of 1hp. With that in mind, the effective performance increase expressed in gained power can be expected to be the same as the "virtual" weight lost due to the flywheel in each gear divided by 10: GEAR "virtual" performance gain: 1st gear 39.4 hp 2nd gear 15.2 hp 3rd gear 7.5 hp 4th gear 4.9 hp 5th gear 3.8 hp 6th gear 3.1 hp This gear-dependent gain is also another reason why a typical 4th-gear dyno pull may not show a significant difference - the calculations show that little more than 4hp would be detected, yet a 4th-gear dyno run shows nothing of real-world acceleration through the gears. Improvements in rev-matching and upgraded clutch clamping power remain regardless of gear. Due to the nature of the "virtual" weight loss, typical 4th-gear dyno runs may show miniscule differences. Real-world acceleration runs will show improvement equivalent to the "virtual" weight loss.

The dimensions of these hybrid sound-tuning devices are tuned very specifically for the rasp frequencies. These are free-flow units that re-structure sound waves without impeding exhaust flow.Another characteristic of the original mid-pipe is that several parts of it are crimped and flattened for clearance. Keep in mind that factory specs for space clearances are more than generous, but when the "design the new BMW" rulebook says that nothing can be within X number of centimeters of the exhaust pipe, the result is that a small underbody clip or bolt causes the exhaust design team to dimple the pipe to retain "rulebook" clearance. The net result is a pipe with compromised volume with absolutely no chance of contact with any part, even if it moved over 100% of its width.UUC uses a pipe diameter within 2mm of factory spec (our pipe is larger) to retain the flow characteristics of what is fundamentally a good mid-pipe design. Description: DSSR - Double Shear Selector Rod, replacement for OE selecor rod. Double Shear Selector Rod. This part fits: 2002-2005 E46 330 6-speed (all models except Xi) The goal. While producing a "short" shifter, our more important goal in improving the BMW shifter assembly is to increase the precision and smoothness of the overall operation. The problem. One significant wear area that has never been addressed previously is the wear and ovalization of the linkage connection points at the transmission and the shifter's lower pivot. In the original BMW design, the connection at both ends has a large injection-molded plastic bushing. We already know how badly plastic wears in an automotive application, and these areas are not an exception. The design of the selector rod has a pin at 90° to the main rod, which exerts a tremendous amount of leveraged force on the selector joint bushing from one side (known as a single shear force). The result is a steady deformation of the bushing, resulting in looseness and slop in the entire mechanism. The looseness and slop are magnified by the leverage-multiplication effect of the shift lever itself. The result is an in-gear shifter "free play" of 3/4" and up to 1" in either direction, over 35mm total. The cure. A temporary fix is to simply replace the selector joint. Unfortunately, this is only a temporary fix as the new joint's bushing will exhibit the same rapid deformation. To permanently fix this, a change in the fundamental design of the pivot is required, changing the assembly to a double shear system with the UUC Double Shear Selector Rod (DSSR). The DSSR redistributes the torsional forces from the pin/bushing interface to the complete face area on both sides of the selector joint. By taking advantage of the strength of steel in the DSSR and the body of the joint, the problem of deformation is eliminated and the movement of the selector rod correlates directly to movement of the selector joint - the only "free play" movement remaining in the shifter assembly is from within the transmission itself. In-gear "free play" is reduced to approximately 10mm total when used with a UUC EVO3 shifter. The original BMW shifter and all other aftermarket shifters (except UUC which uses deformation-free bearings) contain a plastic bushing similar to the selector joint, and the exact same wear and ovalization causes those shifters to get sloppy. The DSSR permanently fixes these shifters also. The DSSR is compatible with all brand shifters, whether original BMW or other-brand aftermarket. When used with the original BMW shifter or other aftermarket shifters, the amount of "free play" will be greatly reduced but varies by shifter (flexation of the shifter shaft contributes to the total "free play" travel). No other solutions. While there are other replacement selector rods sold in the aftermarket (including "no tolerance" brass and "heavy" selector rods), none of them will get rid of the slop and "free play" in the BMW shifter assembly. These alternate products are not actually improving the shift feel at all, but are simply rods with alternate geometry (either bent or twisted), an accommodation to make the "universal fit" aftermarket shifters fit properly. These other aftermarket shifters, even with their "heavy" selector rods, will still be as sloppy as the original BMW shifters they are replacing. While the throw may be shorter, the precision of the assembly is no better than a new BMW part, and will develop the same slop within a few thousand miles.
